FROM OUR KITCHEN ON THANKSGIVING

From our Kitchen on THANKSGIVING

Ok, so I know this is a laaaaaate late presentation but we have been so busy and taking breaks in between tasks, holiday activities and travel. I wanted to post this the day of or after Thanksgiving of the special time with my daughter bonding while cooking a traditional meal minus the turkey. Oh, and dinner came out pretty tasty I might add. My daughter also made her first pumpkin pie from scratch later on this day and it tasted similar to sweet potato pie. After we cooked at home, we went over to our parents and one of my brother's home to eat dinner. That's good.

Enjoy!

REALLY? CELL PHONES DURING THANKSGIVING FEAST???

Thanksgiving Dinner & Cell Phones

So, Which one of these illustrations will be your reality during Thanksgiving dinner this year?

I hope not. I know that this is someone's reality not only during family-time or holidays but it has become your norm. My recommendations are to put down your cell phones at least during Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner time-making a conscious effort to spend quality time together using VERBAL communication.

Ways to improve your holiday or dinner experience:
1. Make an agreement to hurry and get all of the photos of your food and dinner members out of the way before digging in.

2. Inform others that you are taking quick pictures or typing quick texts, and then redirect your attention back to them.

3. Let the textee on the other end know that you will get back to them after spending some time with family, friends and other loved ones.

4. Just put the phone down to enjoy your food and for proper digestion instead of rushing or taking large bites in order to engage in cell phone activities.

Look at what Pew Research finds on the percentage of those who oppose or don't mind using cell phones during dinner:

PART III PUMPKIN MAKES IT BETTER

NURTURED BY PUMPKIN

Yes, I have to talk about the wonders of adding pumpkin to you life again. Should I do a post about the many foods and products you can create with pumpkin? hmmm. maybe. Anywhooo, I'm so happy for one of my clients Ms. K, who shared with me that my natural pumpkin hair and body butter took her away her itchiness on her skin.

During her last appointment, I shampooed, conditioned and oiled Ms. K's hair and scalp using my pumpkin oil blend and a leave in conditioner (yes the L.O.C. -liquid, oil & cream method) before re-twisting her hair roots. I explained the many benefits of pumpkin and how some of us only eat or use it during Fall season when it should be a regular part of our diet. As you can see below, I braided Ms. K's locs, sat her under the dryer for approximately 15 minutes because she will leave it braided for rest of the week before loosening braids to achieve the wavy look she desired in this photo. Ms. K noticed my supply of butters and  asked about them. I let her smell the samples and she fell in love with my Whipped Pumpkin Butter and got one to go! A few days later, she text me to inform me that when her skin was itching, she applied the pumpkin butter and it made the itch go away. Naturally, I smiled. DIVING IN THE FROG & SEASON CHANGE

diving in the frog

Sometimes you have to do it. @Sweetfrogstaplesmill

I'm just saying... As I usual state, "You have to treat yourself."
Last weekend I was feeling bittersweet due to summer's ending because I really love just throwing on one layer of clothing and flip flops or sandals, jumping in my car and outdoor activities. But...that's about to end soon since the weather is changing and getting cooler. Don't worry. I'm not depressed :). When my daughter and I stopped by Sweet Frog and sat outside to eat (dive in) our frozen dessert, I thought about the aforementioned again-how soon, I won't be able to sit outside because it will too chilly and then cold/freezing. :( Especially eating cold food or treats. I just wish Sweet Frog had more non-dairy selections for people who are lactose intolerant such as myself.

I really have nothing major to chat about this time. Just wanted to vent and make this post serve as a catharsis effort to express my thoughts and feelings. Wow!  I think I forgot to  take a picture of my daughter this time around. I just realized that after posting my above opts that my daughter took of me. Sooo back to the change in seasons and weather. It's starting to get dark before 8pm. Oh well. I will live. Good news is, I have shifted my mind to adjust to transition and started looking for upcoming Fall events and found about 12 including many free indoor and outdoor local events. So I'm excited about it. Thanks to Facebook, I saw these events after posting my interest in two events, the list appeared.

I would like to know which is your favorite season and why. As you can tell, I prefer Summer, Spring and early Fall. I had my share of freezing cold weather growing up in NY and not too long ago moved to VA where warmer weather last a little longer. Currently, we still have temperatures in the low to high 80's and 70's. I do like winter clothes (turtleneck shirts, blazers, leather boots, fir coats, fashionable scarves, etc.,) but I am starting to get a little tired now of throwing on several layers of clothing before leaving the house. It's more work :). Anyway, I'm signing off. I pray all well with you and your family. Don't forget to take care of yourself and others, and remember to treat yourself well. Don't self-neglect.

Part II PUMPKIN MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER!

Pumpkin makes everything better part2

So as I was saying, pumpkin derivatives and pumpkin itself is awesome internally and externally on hair and skin. Watch me use it in one of my loc client's hair while damp and conditioned. Mobile styling allows me to tailor and customize my services more to my client's needs and wants. Here, I combined Pumpkin seed oil, Avocado, Almond oil, Olive oil and coconut oil. The pumpkin seed oil is what's creating the dark color. Love it! Here's some great articles breaking down the benefits of pumpkin, Six Surprising Health Benefits of Pumpkin, and The Health Benefits of Pumpkin & Its Power to Heal

HEY PUMPKIN!

Butter Makes Everything Better!

It's unbelievable how many companies and brands I've seen this season labeling "Pumpkin" or "Pumpkin Spice" flavor and aroma in or on their products. From cereals to margarine, liquor, phone cases, etc. Some of these brands are getting a little ridiculous.
Now I'm not really referring to food, skin or hair products. I know it is a marketing method to entice us all to buy, and I get that as an owner of my own companies. I also understand the competitive edge and importance of branding, marketing, promoting and advertising in order attract and keep customers and clients. However, some of the products I've seen don't even make sense to have a pumpkin taste and aroma added to it. I understand the rich properties of real Pumpkin extract, oil and essence.

This is why I formulated a whipped pumpkin butter-to help improve the condition of our skin, scalp and hair. You can Google the benefits of pure pumpkin fruit and derivatives such as oil, butter or extract. Myself along with family members, friends and customers have witnessed the healthy changes in our skin and hair as a result of using pumpkin so I keep it in stock all year long.

This is not a product to entice you to buy seasonally as these pop up products that don't even have pure pumpkin essence in them. Because the psychology is, that when we see the word "pumpkin" on the labels, we will make haste to buy because it's "in season."
So just as other brands, I'm presenting my pumpkin product in hopes you will enjoy and benefit from it ALL OF THE TIME because I infused my whipped pumpkin body and hair butter with real pumpkin oil and mixed it in pumpkin butter. www.hisgardennaturals.com

This butter helps skin to become supple, flexible, and healthier, luxurious feeling and looking, and provides emolliency. It also feeds the skin the much needed nutrients that help rejuvenate skin cellular. Its high content of nutrients is believed to be beneficial in maintaining healthy skin; It is known to contain Phytosterols and Omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids...all beneficial to good cellular health.
Few of the ingredients included: Shea Butter, Organic Pumpkin seed butter, Mango Butter, Murumuru Butter, Olive Fruit Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Glycerin oil, Vitamin E, Fragrance Oil...

Triumphing Over Trauma

tRIUMPHING oVER TRAUMA!

Listen, understand and know that YOU CAN move on from any past and present experiences that may have/are emotional, psychological and familial painful if you really want to be free to live lighter. That is, letting go of the weight that so easily beset you. It is not fun walking around heavy on the inside -making it difficult to maintain stable, harmonious and healthy relationships. The effects of your unhealed places can sabotage many areas of your life. I want you to triumph over trauma. I want you to believe that this is possible.
  • One of the things I do when helping others heal is help them triage and assess their own level of emotional and psychological injury. So as you assess and identify the symptoms of hurt, pain that is often extended from your cellular memory thus, the reason you still feel the effect of that trauma when you think about it, you can move on to triage the level of urgency and care needed to address it or each issue in a multidimensional approach. This is a part of my trauma-focused coaching and counseling approaches that help you become self-aware of what’s going on internally, and begin the healing the process. (Symptoms: negative and hopeless attitude toward life and others, easily angered, self-conscious, pessimistic, critical, judgmental, etc.).
Key points to working through trauma:
  • Sometimes we can be predisposition from some type of profound traumatic experience such as abandonment, neglect, loss, abuse, etc., and this causes us to remain in a state of being perpetually victimized. I don’t believe you want to be forever the victim and not a victor. It’s time to delete this dark cloud that follows you in various areas of your life.
  • Unpacking themes and meanings formed from both repetitious and past traumatic experiences is key to your healing. Believe or not, there are themes and meanings that you operate and process thoughts from. We can hear the same message or words but they can mean something different to all of us based on our life’s experiences and events. The scary thing is that we make decisions based on these themes and meanings that can be faulty and therefore, detrimental to ours and other’s lively-hood.
  • Basically, these meanings have left an impression on you that have effected your way of thinking, processing info and communicating. These impressions become apparent to others and can actually push them away because they don’t know how to interact with you and your ISSUES (pain, symptoms, etc.).
  • Your trauma can leave a negative impression on them as well. Once you have assessed and identified the meanings behind your perceptions, assumptions and conclusions, the better you will understand and identify what areas that need to be dealt with, confronted and treated.
  • After doing the above work, becoming solution-focused would be the next step.
Know that you can heal from trauma and live as a whole person by working with a pastoral strategist or pastoral counseling, Trauma-focused coach or therapist, transformation and life strategist or coach and other human services individual and resources.
